This guide will teach you a few ways of Making Money by Recycling.
Written by Rob @The Green Age.
Yes thats right! You can make money through recycling old household goods.
To be honest though, most of you already use popular auction websites like ebay and have earned a few pounds here and there by doing so. There are other ways of unloading a few things round the house. It has never been so easy to recycle and do your bit for the environment.

Where do I start?
You start by taking a good look around your home. What have you not used for over a year – can you see yourself needing it again? Is it really worth keeping things just for the sake of it?
Some of you may find things that you forgot about and you will be glad to see the back of.
Then you have to think ‘can I sell this?’, even a broken laptop can be sold but just don’t expect too much for it. Things that might not sell will generally be kitchen/bathroom goods i.e. blenders, toasters and toothbrush holders that have been used.
Once you have found a few potential sale items you are spoilt for choice for where you can sell them.

Music Magpie – review
Music Magpie lets you get rid of all those unwanted CD’s. Not that long ago I managed to rid myself of a mix of cds, a couple of dvds and a couple of games, 15 items in total and got just over £15 for it all. Thats not bad considering most of the items were appalingly bad!
You type in the barcodes to the items. Then they will send you freepost stamps, so as long as you have a few envelopes kicking around then it wont cost you a penny to send it all off.

Mobile Phone Xchange - review
Mobile phone exchange allows you to recycle old phones. Most phones wont make much – £5/10 but the whole point being the phones are shipped off to less developed countries where they are then used again. It saves them going on the rubbish dump or lying around in the back of a drawer.
I have just sent off 2 old contract phones and I am waiting to recieve the £20/£5 checks for them.

Your local newspaper classifieds are an excellent place to buy and sell old goods. Most papers are free to place an advert, some charge a small amount per week listed.
Scrap metal is another good one. If you have just had the builders in then instead of relying on them to despose of your scrap, take it down the local merchants yourself. Its surprising how much you can get for old copper wire and plumbing pipes.
Remember, all the scrap gets sold on and re-used!

The Freecycle network – review
The Freecycle network is an excellent place to offload old goods that you will not be able to sell but might be of use to someone. Its free to join and free to participate.
Now that you know where to go, you can waste no time in recycling all of your old household goods and start Making Money by Recycling!
These are just a few methods that I have tried. If you know of any more and wish to share them with us all, then post up the details in ‘comments’. Thank you:)
